About TravellerKate

Kate Webster is a world traveller, ocean lover and conservation warrior who is determined to make every moment count for not only herself but the world around her. This has inspired Kate to translate those moments and share them through her storytelling.

An adventurer at heart with a curious spirit to explore, her work as a travel journalist has taken her to the edges of the Earth, which she captures in her words and photography. A dedicated David Attenborough and Jane Goodall fan, Kate has delved into the world of wildlife and conservation travel to bring awareness.

Under her company Captured Travel Media, Kate creates compelling stories and captures vivid imagery as an Editor across Captured Travel and Where Wild Things Roam (with ROAM magazine and podcast). Keeping the travel trade industry up to date, Kate is a freelance journalist at Travel Monitor. Kate has a column called TravellerKate in Asian Journeys Magazine.

Stories Kate has told

Ubumuntu is what we all need

Travelling really opens your eyes to a world beyond your immediate one. The more I have travelled, the more my eyes stay peeled on world events and how travellers fit into that. The war in Ukraine...

Tavanipupu – Royal Waters

Meaning ‘a place where the fish pass through’, Tavanipupu is not a place you want to just pass on through. Kate Webster ditches her watch, goes barefoot and dives into the waters to see if the fish...

The Coconut

What do a former United States President, the Solomon Islands and a coconut have in common? Kate Webster heads to a small island off the town of Gizo to find out. The capital of the Western Province...

Wow Walhalla is wonderous

I have always been a fan of travelling somewhere that makes you feel so far removed from the norm, and that is something I found in the quaint historic town of Walhalla. Located just 2.5 hours drive...

Eden’s soul food

I am the first to admit, I am not one to obsess over a healthy lifestyle. I don’t mind a glass of wine, love my chocolate and am a sucker for good cheese and bread. I have never owned a gym...

Call of the wild

To support conservation and experience the wild world at its best, start by recognising tourism organisations that endorse ethical travel, writes Kate Webster. They say an elephant never forgets, nor...

Chilling at Crystal Creek Rainforest Retreat

Every now and then I think it is important to switch off, completely disconnect from the world and tune in to nature. This really does recharge the mind and soul in the purest way. Hidden on the Far...

Travel apps I swear by

I must admit, I live on my phone these days. I am not proud of it, but I really do depend on it to get me through my day to day. So, when it comes to travelling, I make sure I am armed with apps that...

Acts heal the hurt

Rwanda may be known as the ‘Heart of Africa’ because of its location, but as Kate Webster discovered, it is a country that is full of heart. As the world is gripped by the changes in daily life due...

Right at home in Rwanda

Being my second time visiting Rwanda, I thought I knew what to expect. I was wrong, as this small East African country has so much to offer. It is not a country you visit once, but a country that...

A year of travel

What a year 2019 has been. As the last issue of Asian Journeys Magazine goes out for 2019 and we start planning for 2020, I must take this opportunity to thank you for reading my column and articles...

Magical Magashi

Kate Webster discovers a place in Africa where wild things roam, all the way up to the foot of your bed.  Laying in bed, I was serenaded by hippos into one of the best sleeps I have ever had...

The air up there

Floating at 4500 feet in the air, Kate Webster finds warmth in the sunshine and calm in the stillness over the Gold Coast on a hot air balloon flight. I don’t mind early mornings but in winter it...

Voluntourism

Over my years of travel, I have morphed from being just a tourist with a camera visiting the hot spots, to developing a sense of reason when visiting far flung places. Travel has given me the...

A whale of a time

Nothing quite prepares you for coming face to face with a humpback whale. The experience really is life changing. There are few wildlife encounters that allow you to get this up close and personal...

Feeling gratitude daily in Laos

It is hard not to feel gratitude daily in Laos’ Luang Prabang. I found it such a peaceful place where every moment and experience was a true blessing. Laos is a country that remains lost in time...
