Sun City, Africa’s kingdom of pleasure

Just two and a half hours drive from the land locked city of Johannesburg, you would not expect to find a resort complex surrounded by the expansive wildlife reserve of Pilanesberg National Park. That is the magical surprise of Sun City.

Framed by the reserve and its mountains, Sun City is a resort complex offering fun, sun and surf.   Yes you heard right … surf is up at one of the favourite attractions at the resort, The Valley of the Waves.  Here guests can ride a series of metre high waves generated every half hour, all the way to the sandy shore of the beach in the main pool.  If you fancy a bit more of a thrill there are five exhilarating water rides and three looping water slides, all amongst the several pools in the aquatic themed park.

These water attractions are only the tip of the iceberg of what is on offer at what is called Africa’s Kingdom of Pleasure.  Sun City is bursting at the seams with things to see and do, and offers a wide range of activities to suit everyone from couples to families, corporate clients to even the day visitor.  Once known as a popular place for its casinos and gambling, activities like quad biking, zip-sliding, horseback riding, cycling and jet-skiing seem to becoming more popular.

For those avid golfers, there is even a choice of two courses.  Both designed by legendary golfer Gary Player, the challenging par 72 course in scenic surrounds can offer a unique surprise of crocodiles on the 13th hole.

The type of accommodation is just as varied, with a choice of four hotels, each with their own style, character and ambience. Probably the most famous is the luxurious Palace of the Lost City which provides a truly African opulence in a fairytale palatial grandeur.

Taking its name from the cascading streams that run within the surrounding lush tropical gardens, the Cascades Hotel offers timeless elegance and understated luxury. The central hub of excitement and activities is the Sun City Hotel.  This property is perfect for those people who want to be in the heart of the resort.

The ideal family accommodation, perfect for casual holidays, are the Cabanas. This property is the most affordable hotel at Sun City and ideally set up for families from their rooms to the hotel’s situation near to a host of children’s activities as well as the water sport haven at the lake.

Each of the four hotels at Sun City have several dining options – from casual fare to fine dining restaurants and all of the amenities on offer at Sun City are available to guests staying at any of these hotels.

So no matter what your holiday style, be it romance, value for money, family fun or sheer decadence, a stay at Sun City is sure to provide exactly what you are looking for.
