Having previously stayed in Denarau and visited the Coral Coast, I was eager to see what all the fuss was about with Natadola Bay. Located on the west coast of Viti Levu, Fiji’s largest island, Natadola Bay lies approximately 40 kilometres south of Nadi International Airport.
Natadola Bay boasts a slightly curving, almost two kilometres long, protected beach of white sand, bounded by coconut palms to the north-east and framed by two low headlands. The bay opens directly to the Pacific Ocean as the surrounding Fijian reef retains a natural water break. Here is where I find my home for the next few days, The Intercontinental Fiji Golf Resort and Spa.
Nestled amongst 35 acres of lush, immaculate tropical gardens, the InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort and Spa, or Intercon Fiji as it is called by the locals, is located on this beautiful and picturesque Natadola Bay. I was greeted by the rhythmic beating of the now familiar Fijian drums. The first thing you will notice about the Intercon Fiji is its sheer expansive size. Flawless in every sense, the balance of space hardly reveals the number of guests that are already enjoying their stay.
After a speedy check in, I found myself settling into my Beachfront Suite. Sat at the water’s edge featuring panoramic views of beautiful Natadola Bay and surrounded by a greenery of privacy, the suites are an enormous 85m2. They feature a separate bedroom and living areas and a private terrace with day bed and indulgent outdoor Cleopatra-style bath. With the indulgent Pure Fiji amenities sat by the bath, I could not wait to sink into a soothing soak.
While there was an abundant selection of activities and things to do around the resort, I decided to spend the afternoon just relaxing around the suite and enjoying the view from the outside terrace. After all, I was on Fiji time.
As I watched the sun sink onto the horizon, painting the sky in an array of pink and orange hues, it was my Fiji watch telling me to make my way to dinner. The night’s dinner had been set up under the stars, overlooking the infinity pool. With the iridescent blue glow from the pool and the surrounding fire torches, the atmosphere as I sat at the table closed in around me in a magical embrace. Being out in the elements enhanced the feeling with the stars winking down on me and serenaded by the waves caressing the shore. What a way to enjoy a meal.
Keen to explore what more the resort had to offer in the morning, I retired back to my suite and sank into the most comfortable bed, and the most relaxing sleep.
Great coverage Kate. Love reading your reviews.
